Panaji, Mar 31: A viral video showing a parasailing cable snapping mid-air over Goa has triggered widespread concern over adventure sports safety standards in the tourism sector.
The footage reportedly shows a tourist falling into the Arabian Sea after the equipment failed during the activity. The person was later rescued by a nearby boat crew, preventing a possible tragedy.
The incident has once again raised questions over safety practices followed by adventure sports operators along Goa’s coastal belt, with concerns being voiced about equipment maintenance, inspection standards and regulatory enforcement.

According to reports, a probe has been initiated by Goa Police into the incident in the Baga area, with officials examining possible lapses in safety compliance. The episode has highlighted the absence of uniform technical audits and standardised certification for adventure tourism operators.
Experts and stakeholders have pointed out that inconsistent safety protocols and inadequate training of operators may be contributing factors in such incidents, calling for stricter enforcement mechanisms and regular equipment inspections.
The incident has also reignited debate over the need for a centralised safety framework to regulate adventure tourism activities and ensure passenger safety across coastal and water-based recreational sports.
Authorities are expected to review existing guidelines in light of the incident.
