BJP unveils Assam poll manifesto, promises Rs 5 lac cr investment and UCC push

Guwahati, Mar 31: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday released the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, promising large-scale infrastructure investment, land protection measures and policy reforms.

The party’s “Sankalp Patra” outlines 31 key promises, including an estimated ?5 lakh crore infrastructure investment, recovery of encroached land, implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and expanded employment opportunities for youth.

The manifesto was released in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, BJP state president Dilip Saikia and other senior party leaders.

Sitharaman said the manifesto reflects a decade of transformation in Assam under BJP rule, adding that development in the state had accelerated compared to earlier decades under the Congress. She claimed that peace and stability have enabled growth and that Assam has witnessed major improvements in infrastructure and governance.

She also said that the presence of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) had reduced significantly in the state under the current government.

The BJP further asserted that youth from Assam are now returning from global careers due to improved opportunities in the state.

Elections to 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam are scheduled for April 9, with counting set for May 4.
