SWR launches special trains to coastal districts, Goa and Kerala for Good Friday, Easter weekend

Bengaluru, Mar 31: With Good Friday on April 3 followed by the weekend (Easter Sunday), passengers from Bengaluru and the coastal districts of Karnataka and Kerala can look forward to a three-day long weekend. To manage the festive travel rush for Good Friday and Easter, the South Western Railway has announced special trains connecting Bengaluru, Madgaon in Goa, and Kollam in Kerala.

To ease passenger congestion, Railways will run special trains between Yeshwantpur, Madgaon, and Bengaluru Cantonment. The Yeshwantpur–Madgaon Special Express, Train No. 06271, will depart Yeshwantpur at 11:55 pm on April 2 and reach Madgaon at 5:30 pm on April 3. The return train, Madgaon–Bengaluru Cantonment Special Express, Train No. 06272, will depart Madgaon at 11 am on April 5 and arrive at Bengaluru Cantonment at 5:20 am on April 6.

The trains will stop en route at Kunigal, Channarayapatna, Hassan, Sakleshpura, Subrahmanya Road, Kabakaputtur, Bantwal, Surathkal, Mulki, Udupi, Barkur, Kundapura, Byndoor, Bhatkal, Murdeshwar, Honnavar, Kumta, Gokarna Road, Ankola, Karwar, and Canacona. On the return journey, Train 06272 will not stop at Yeshwantpur, but will halt at SMVT Bengaluru. These trains will consist of 19 coaches, including two AC 2-tier, two AC 3-tier, nine sleeper class, four second-class general, and two SLR/D coaches.

Travellers heading further south can use the Hubballi–Kollam special trains, which connect Karnataka to Kerala’s coastal towns. The Hubballi–Kollam Special Express, Train No. 07347, will depart Hubballi at 7:05 am on April 2 and reach Kollam at 7:00 am on April 3. The return train, Kollam–Hubballi Special Express, Train No. 07348, will depart Kollam at 10:45 am on April 3 and arrive at Hubballi at 10:40 am on April 4. The trains will stop en route at SMMT Haveri, Ranebennuru, Harihar, Davanagere, Birur, Arsikere, Tumakuru, SMVT Bengaluru, Krishnarajapuram, Bangarapete, Kuppam, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanasseri, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikkara, and Kayamkulam. The Hubballi–Kollam special trains will run with 17 coaches, comprising one AC 2-tier, three AC 3-tier, seven sleeper class, four second-class general, and two SLR/D coaches.

These special trains aim to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for passengers from Bengaluru and the coastal districts of Karnataka and Kerala, helping them reach their holiday destinations during the festive period.
