Beed, Mar 27: A woman and her son were killed after their car caught fire following a head-on collision with a truck on the Beed-Ahilyanagar Highway in Maharashtra.

According to police, the victims, residents of Kaij taluka, were travelling towards Beed when a speeding gravel-laden truck coming from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle near Kapshi village.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the car and triggered a fire in the engine. The collision caused the doors to jam, trapping the occupants inside and leaving them unable to escape.

The flames quickly engulfed the vehicle. Though locals rushed to the spot to help, both victims had succumbed to their injuries before they could be rescued.

Police clarified that while initial reports indicated the victims were a couple, they were later identified as a mother and her son.
