Excessive screen time linked to higher heart risk among young adults

New Delhi, Mar 27: Prolonged screen time may independently increase the risk of cardiovascular problems among young adults, according to a recent study that highlights growing health concerns in the digital age.

Researchers found that individuals who spend extended hours on screens—whether for work, entertainment or social media—may face a higher likelihood of developing heart-related issues, even if they are otherwise physically active.

The study suggests that long durations of sedentary behaviour associated with screen use can negatively impact heart health, contributing to factors such as poor circulation, increased blood pressure and metabolic changes.

Experts noted that excessive screen exposure often leads to reduced physical activity, irregular sleep patterns and unhealthy lifestyle habits, all of which can elevate cardiovascular risk over time.

The findings underline the need for young adults to adopt healthier routines, including limiting screen time, engaging in regular exercise and maintaining balanced daily habits to safeguard long-term heart health.
