Madrid, Mar 27: Spanish badminton icon Carolina Marin has announced her retirement from professional badminton, bringing the curtain down on a glittering 14-year international career.
Known for her fierce aggression and unrelenting hunger for victory, Marin carved her name in history with an Olympic gold medal and three World Championship titles, breaking the long-standing Asian dominance in women’s badminton.

The Huelva-born shuttler was admired as much for her on-court intensity as for her charismatic presence, often celebrating victories with unmatched passion. Her competitive spirit and refusal to settle for second place made her one of the most formidable players of her era.
Marin’s decision comes after a prolonged battle with knee injuries, having undergone multiple surgeries. Despite recently engaging in training sessions, the physical toll ultimately forced her to step away from top-level competition.
While she has retired from professional badminton, Marin hinted that she may continue to remain connected to the sport in a different capacity. Her legacy as a trailblazer who reshaped global badminton will endure.
