Mumbai Police SUV catches fire in Sakinaka; no injuries reported

Mumbai, Mar 27: A newly inducted SUV belonging to the Mumbai Police caught fire in the Sakinaka area of Mumbai on Thursday afternoon, officials said. No injuries were reported in the incident.

According to police, the vehicle was on routine patrolling duty when smoke suddenly began emanating from the bonnet. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, had pulled over to the roadside after receiving a phone call.

Moments later, noticing the smoke, he immediately stepped out of the SUV. The vehicle soon caught fire and was engulfed in flames.

The fire destroyed the driver’s mobile phone, clothes, and bag, police said. An accidental fire case has been registered, and the exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.

Officials added that the SUV was part of a recently inducted fleet of 633 new vehicles introduced by the Mumbai Police department.
