New York, Mar 19: In a significant breakthrough, authorities in West Des Moines have arrested a suspect in the 15-year-old murder case of 27-year-old realtor Ashley Okland, bringing renewed hope for justice to her family and the local community.
Okland was found lying on the floor by an employee of a development company after she was shot twice while hosting an open house inside a model townhouse for Iowa Realty. The incident occurred in the early afternoon, according to Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead, officials said.
According to reports, the accused, Ramsey, had previously worked as an administrative assistant and sales manager for Rottlund Homes, the developer of the townhouse where the fatal shooting took place. At the time of the arrest, Ramsey was employed at Midland Title & Escrow, which has connections to the realty firm Okland worked for.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the killing.
Assistant Police Chief Jody Hayes said investigators pursued “thousands of leads” and reviewed extensive evidence over the years to solve the case.
“Ashley’s story has haunted a very vibrant community of professional realtors who have forever changed how they conduct business,” Hayes said, adding that the case remained a constant focus for investigators.
He noted that a crucial “missing piece” eventually led authorities to the suspect, though officials declined to reveal further details about the breakthrough.
Okland’s siblings, Josh Okland and Brittany Bruce, expressed gratitude to law enforcement and the community for their persistence.
“This is a day our family has thought about for years,” Josh Okland said, recalling the long wait for answers. Brittany Bruce added that the family had nearly lost hope as the case went cold, making the arrest all the more emotional.
Police emphasized that while the arrest marks a major development, the investigation is still ongoing.
