Chhattisgarh, Mar 18: The story of Sanjay Dahariya, who secured the 946th rank in the 2025 Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, stands as an inspiration that no challenge can stop those determined to achieve their goals.

Sanjay Dahariya hails from Beltukari village in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh and comes from a farming family. A bright student, Sanjay was a young man determined to achieve something meaningful in life. His life took a decisive turn when he secured admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Raipur. It was during this period, after meeting an IAS officer, that he began dreaming of becoming an IAS officer himself.

Sanjay later completed his graduation in economics from a college in Mahasamund and secured a job in a bank. However, his dream of becoming an IAS officer remained alive, and he continued to nurture that aspiration. But fate had other plans. In 2012, Sanjay was diagnosed with salivary gland cancer when he was just 23 years old.

Undeterred by the diagnosis, Sanjay underwent four surgeries and continued his treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. As part of his fight against cancer, he underwent 28 rounds of radiation therapy. At one stage, he developed a nerve-related complication on the right side of his face, which resulted in partial disability.

Despite these hardships, Sanjay never allowed his long-cherished dream of becoming an IAS officer to fade. Cancer could not weaken his determination to achieve his goal. To meet the expenses of his treatment, he worked in a bank and later at a post office, continuing to earn while preparing for the UPSC examination. Eventually, he left his job to focus entirely on UPSC preparation.

Sanjay appeared for the UPSC examination for the first time in 2022, but his attempt was unsuccessful. However, he did not give up and continued his efforts with determination. In his third attempt, in 2025, he secured the 946th rank and was selected for the civil services.

Reacting after the announcement of the results, Sanjay Dahariya, who is expecting to secure a post in the Indian revenue department, said that his goal is to serve the nation.

His journey stands as a powerful example that even in the face of illness, financial hardship, and repeated failures, success is possible through determination and hard work.
