New Delhi, Mar 17: Former South Africa star AB de Villiers has picked India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as the greatest T20 player of all time, praising his consistency and match-winning ability under pressure.
De Villiers, who himself is regarded as one of the finest T20 players and has featured alongside legends like Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, said his choice might sound ironic as he selected a bowler over batters.

“Who is the T20 Greatest of All Time? It’s going to be an ironic answer… I think it’s Bumrah. But not bowling to me,” de Villiers said. He highlighted Bumrah’s ability to deliver in all phases of a T20 innings, whether with the new ball, at the death, or even in Super Overs.
“His consistency and ability to take wickets under pressure—throw the ball to him in any situation and he wins you the game,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan pacer and senior selector Aaqib Javed also praised Bumrah’s unique bowling style, noting that his unconventional action makes it difficult for batters to settle into a rhythm. However, he drew an unusual comparison, likening Bumrah to mystery spinner Usman Tariq.
Aaqib’s remarks triggered criticism on social media, with many fans questioning the comparison between the Indian fast bowler and the spinner.
