Udupi: Malpe police arrest accused absconding for 13 years

Udupi, Mar 16: An absconding accused who had been evading court proceedings for nearly 13 years has been arrested by the Malpe police.

The accused, Arif, a resident of Gandhi Bagilu, Koyla village, Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district, was wanted in a case registered at the Malpe police station. The case was being heard at the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Udupi.

 

The accused had failed to appear before the court for several years and remained at large. Acting on a court warrant, warrant staff head constable Suresh Kumar and head constable Vishwanath traced the accused to Koyla and arrested him at around 7 am on March 16.

The accused was produced before the CJM court, Udupi, which remanded him to judicial custody until March 28.
