Mangaluru, Mar 12: KMC Hospital Mangalore on the occasion of World Kidney Day, highlighted its comprehensive kidney care services aimed at strengthening early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of kidney diseases. The initiative was led by the hospital’s nephrology department to raise awareness about kidney health and emphasize the importance of preventive care. With a large multidisciplinary team, round-the-clock services, and advanced treatment facilities including dialysis and transplant support, the hospital aims to provide accessible and patient-centered kidney care to individuals across the region.
Dr Ashok Bhat senior consultant nephrology, stated, “World Kidney Day serves as an important reminder for individuals to prioritize kidney health. Many patients remain unaware of kidney disease in the early stages because symptoms often appear only when the condition has progressed. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, controlling blood pressure and blood sugar levels, staying hydrated, and undergoing routine blood investigations, urine tests, health check-ups can significantly reduce the risk of kidney disease. Early preventive measures are key to long-term kidney health. One should meet their Nephrologist to get a customized advice as per their health conditions.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sushanth Kumar, senior consultant nephrology, said, “All kidney diseases may not end up in dialysis. Dialysis usually begins in stage 5 CKD or when severe symptoms or complications appear. Transplant is best modality of treatment for CKD or Kidney failure when compared to dialysis. Our success rate of transplant is high and this is possible when there is a relative donor or deceased donor. In case of deceased organ mobilization, we have our govt. supported program Jeeva Sarthakathe. Whereas for Live doner transplant we have our own hospital authority committee for all the approvals & legal requirements as per organ transplantation act.”
Explaining about the facilities of the department, Dr Mayoor Prabhu HOD - nephrology, said, “At KMC Hospital Mangalore, we have established comprehensive Nephrology services including advanced dialysis support which is one of the largest unit across Dakshin Kannada, experienced transplant team and multidisciplinary treatment approaches backed by advanced diagnostic services to ensure patients receive timely and effective care.
Our Nephrology team is the largest in the region comprising, supported by 24/7 and 365-day services from doctors and allied healthcare professionals to ensure continuous patient care.
