Udupi, Mar 11: Adani Power Limited, through its CSR arm Adani Foundation, on March 11 unveiled the newly constructed first floor of the Thenka gram panchayat office at Yermal Thenka village in Udupi district. The facility has been constructed at a project cost of Rs 25.15 lac under the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The newly developed office space was inaugurated by Kishore Alva, executive director & president of the Adani Group, in the presence of Surekha, immediate past president of Thenka gram panchayat, Manjunath Shetty, panchayat development officer, former members of the panchayat and panchayat staff.

Speaking on the occasion, Kishore Alva stated that following the acquisition of the Udupi Thermal Power Plant by the Adani Group in 2015, the company has been actively implementing a range of social development initiatives in the surrounding villages. These initiatives primarily focus on education, healthcare, rural infrastructure development, livelihood promotion, and encouragement of rural sports, aimed at improving the quality of life of the local communities.
He further informed that Adani Foundation has extended special CSR grants to seven surrounding gram panchayats to support infrastructure development works. Under this initiative, development works worth approximately Rs 12 crore have already been executed in these panchayats, including projects worth about Rs 2.10 crore exclusively in Thenka gram panchayat. Every year, infrastructure development activities are undertaken based on the Action Plan (Kriya Yojana) submitted by the respective panchayats, ensuring that the CSR interventions directly address the local developmental priorities.
As part of its Kriya Yojana, Thenka gram panchayat had proposed the expansion of its office space to meet the increasing administrative and public service requirements of the growing population in the panchayat jurisdiction. Responding to this request, Adani Power Limited, in collaboration with Adani Foundation, undertook the construction of the first floor of the existing panchayat building.
The newly constructed office space will significantly enhance the functioning and service delivery capacity of the Panchayat administration. The expanded facility will provide adequate space for conducting panchayat meetings, maintaining records and documentation, and accommodating staff and public representatives. It will also enable the Panchayat to handle various citizen services more efficiently, including issuance of certificates, implementation of government welfare schemes, grievance redressal, and coordination of developmental activities in the village.
With improved infrastructure, the Panchayat office will serve as a more accessible and organized administrative hub for villagers, enabling faster processing of applications, better coordination among officials, and more transparent governance at the grassroots level. The improved working environment is also expected to strengthen panchayat’s ability to plan and implement development programmes, thereby contributing to the overall progress of the rural community.
Surekha, immediate past president of Thenka gram panchayat, expressed gratitude to the Adani entity for its continuous support toward rural development and appreciated the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening local governance institutions. She noted that the CSR initiatives of Adani Foundation have been instrumental in improving infrastructure and delivering tangible benefits to rural communities.
Manjunath Shetty, panchayat development officer, also spoke on the occasion and thanked Adani Foundation for its meaningful contribution towards the welfare and development of the village.
Among others present on the occasion were Vijay, village accountant, Kasturi Praveen, immediate past vice president of the panchayat, Kishore Kumar, Balachandra, Aruna Kumari, past members of the panchayat, Ravi R Jere, AGM of Adani Power Limited, and Anudeep from Adani Foundation, along with panchayat staff and local residents.
The initiative reflects Adani Foundation’s continued commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure and empowering local self-governance institutions, thereby contributing to sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
