Bantwal, Mar 10: Police have succeeded in cracking a case involving the theft of gold ornaments worth around Rs 20 lac from a bag in a bus about five months ago.
In connection with the case, the police have arrested an accused from Madhya Pradesh (MP) and recovered the stolen ornaments.
It may be recalled, on November 19, 2025, a couple from Brahmavar was travelling in a Durgamba bus. When the bus halted near ‘Samudra Hotel’ at Kudrebettu close to Kalladka in Bantwal taluk, gold ornaments weighing about 180 grams (valued at approximately Rs 20 lac) were stolen from the couple’s bag.

Following the incident, a case had been registered at the Bantwal City police station.
After intensifying the investigation, the police arrested the accused identified as Samad Khan (37), a resident of Madhya Pradesh, who had committed the theft. The stolen gold ornaments have been recovered from him and he has been produced before the court.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police Dr Arun K and additional superintendent of police Anil Kumar Bhumareddy, and under the direction of Bantwal ASP Yash Kumar Sharma.
The team was led by investigating officer and Bantwal city inspector Ananth Padmanabha. Bantwal City police station sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar Shetty, staff members Vijay Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Rajesh, Irshad P, Basavaraj, Vijay Kumar, woman police constable Revathi, and district police computer unit personnel Sampath Kumar and Divakar were part of the successful operation.
