Kaup: Bike rider killed, two injured in scooter-bike collision on NH-66

Kaup, Mar 10: A 23-year-old bike rider lost his life while two others sustained injuries after a scooter and a motorcycle collided at Kaup on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Suraj (23), a resident near Admar College. The injured include pillion rider Adhish and scooter rider Umesh, a resident of Koppalangadi.

According to reports, Suraj was working as a supervisor at Sujnaan Company in Padubidri. On Sunday night, he had travelled to Katapady and was returning to his house at Admar when the accident occurred near the K1 Hotel junction on National Highway-66 in Kaup.

Due to the impact of the collision, scooter rider Umesh and bike rider Suraj were thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries, while pillion rider Adhish suffered minor injuries.

Local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the district hospital in Udupi. Later, as advised by doctors, they were moved to a private hospital for further treatment.

Suraj was shifted to Manipal Hospital where doctors reportedly declared that he had suffered brain death. He was later brought back to the district hospital but succumbed to his injuries early Monday morning.

A case has been registered at the Kaup police station and further investigation is underway.
