Udupi, Mar 9: Stree Sangathan of Christ Church, Manipal, celebrated International Women’s Day on March 7. The programme commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass, followed by a talk on 'Constitutional and Human Rights', a cultural programme and dinner.
The programme began with a prayer song by the members of Stree Sangathan. The event was presided over by parish priest and spiritual director of Stree Sangathan, Fr Romeo Lewis.
















The dignitaries present on the dais included Sr Jacintha Rego, superior of Cluny Convent, Manipal; Advocate Janifer Quadras, resource person of the evening and visiting faculty at St Aloysius College, Mangalore; Sylvia Suares, Udupi diocesan president of Stree Sangathan; Gladys Rebello, Varado president of Stree Sangathan; Alwyn Saldanha, vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council; Lawrence D’ Almeida, Pastoral Commission coordinator; Cynthia Menezes, president of Stree Sangathan and Simple Cutinho, secretary of Stree Sangathan.
Cynthia Menezes welcomed the gathering and Simple Cutinho presented a brief report highlighting the activities and initiatives undertaken by the organization during the past year, from March 2025 to February 2026.
Fr Romeo Lewis addressed the gathering and delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the significant role of women in the family, the Church and society. On this occasion, Stree Sangathan honoured two of its members, Anita Lobo and Flavia Mendonca, for their achievements in the field of sports.
The resource person, advocate Janifer Quadras, delivered an insightful talk on 'Constitution and Human Rights'. She explained the difference between gender equity and gender equality and highlighted the various rights available to women at different stages of their lives, creating awareness about gender justice and the protection of human rights.
Stree Sangathan members also presented a thought-provoking skit conveying the message that when women unite to support and uplift one another, they can empower those in need and inspire society to treat them with dignity, support their growth and refrain from exploitation.
As part of the cultural programme, the members of Stree Sangathan also presented a lively dance performance. The cultural segment was compered by Asha Rodrigues and Sharlet Martis, who also kept the audience actively engaged by organizing a few fun games, adding joy and enthusiasm to the celebration.
The evening concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Juliana D’Souza, vice president of Stree Sangathan. The celebration was attended by 145 people, including ward Gurkars, parish pastoral council members, Stree Sangathan members and parishioners.
