Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 8: "Samanvaya (coordination) is the key foundation for success, and the vision and dreams of an individual can bring about significant change in society," said Evelyn P Kannan, secretary general of the Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI).

She was speaking after inaugurating the 'Samanvaya 2K26' annual day celebration of the Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing, under Nitte (Deemed to be University), held at the K S Hegde Auditorium in Deralakatte.

She stated that nurses render invaluable service to society and symbolise humanity. "Nurses must always uphold honesty, dedication, and trust in their profession. Knowledge is extremely essential in the medical field, and nurses must continuously update their knowledge," she said.

The Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) was established in 1908 by just nine European nurses, and with their vision and service-oriented approach, the nursing field in India has grown tremendously today. What matters in life is not how many years we live, but how we live and what kind of contribution we make to society, she added.

Presiding over the programme, Prof Dr Gopal Mugeraya, vice president of the Technical Education Division of Nitte (Deemed to be University), said that doctors treat diseases, but nurses treat and care for patients. "Nurses are not just caregivers; they are healers, counsellors, and educators. As a reflection of trust between the patient and the doctor, nurses play a crucial role in the healthcare system. Nurses always strive to identify the root cause of problems and provide treatment, working with dedication and a strong spirit of service to the healthcare system," he said.

The annual report was presented by principal Dr Fatima D’Silva. Prathibha Sherigar, lecturer in the Department of Mental Health Nursing, and Sheryl Fernandes, lecturer and SNA advisor, were present.

Academic toppers Chisale Roseline Dakru (MSc Nursing), Khobeni Mure (P.B.B.Sc Nursing), and Gyurme Lhamo (BSc Nursing) were felicitated.
