Mangaluru, Mar 8: The Women’s Day celebration was joyfully organised at Holy Family Church, Omzoor by Stree Sanghatan Omzoor. The day began with a solemn holy Mass celebrated by the parish priest, Fr William Menezes.
At the beginning of the Mass, the members of Stree Sanghatan reverently lit a candle before Mother Mary, honouring her as the patron and model of all women. In his sermon, the priest reflected on the story of the Samaritan woman who came to draw water and encountered Jesus, asking him for the “living water.” He explained the deeper meaning of spiritual thirst and how Christ satisfies the needs of the human heart.

The holy Mass was offered as a thanksgiving for all the women of the Omzoor parish, appreciating their dedicated service to their families, society, and the Church.
After the Mass, the Women’s Day programme continued at the Holy Family Sabha Bhavan, Omzoor. A talk on mental well-being and stress management was delivered by Fr Victor D’Souza, the resource person. In his talk, he explained that stress is often the root cause of many illnesses and spoke about how it affects people physically, mentally, and socially. He also shared ways to manage stress and maintain a balanced life.
The dignitaries present on the stage included Fr William Menezes (parish priest), Fr Victor D’Souza (resident priest), Sr Luciana (superior of St Charles Borromeo Convent), Arthur D'Souza (vice president of the Pastoral Council), Daffny Lewis (secretary of the Pastoral Council), Elroy Saldanha (Commission coordinator), Vinaya Braggs (president of Shree Sanghatan), Milly Dsouza (secretary of Stree Sanghatan) and Wilma Vas (Stree Ayog secretary).
During the programme, women serving as Gurkars in the parish were honoured by the parish priest in recognition of their dedicated service. In his message, Fr William Menezes beautifully expressed that sacrifice, love, and courage define a woman. He also highlighted that the good values seen in children often reflect the upbringing and guidance of their mothers.
The members of Stree Sanghatan added joy to the celebration by presenting dances, songs, games, and a skit for the entertainment of the gathering. On this occasion, Rita D’Souza was specially honoured for her many years of dedicated service to Stree Sanghatan.
The celebration was further graced by the presence of U T Khader, the speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly, whose presence made the occasion more memorable.
The meaningful and joyful programme concluded with a sumptuous meal shared by all the participants, bringing the Women’s Day celebration to a warm and happy end.
