Brahmavar, Mar 8: In a major burglary, gold and silver ornaments along with cash totaling Rs 14.67 lac were stolen from a residence in Herady on Friday night while the occupants were away attending a religious function.
The house belongs to Manjunatha Rao, a resident of Herady. According to the police, Rao and his wife had locked the house and traveled to Barkur to attend a 'Nagamandala' service. Taking advantage of their absence, the burglars gained entry into the house by breaking the lock.

The thieves broke open the cupboard in the bedroom and decamped with a variety of valuables, including pearl necklaces, bangles, earrings, and rings. Additionally, a silver platter (harivana), a 'kavalige', and Rs 49,000 in cash were stolen. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at Rs 14,67,000.
The incident came to light when the couple returned home and found the premises ransacked. A case has been registered at the Brahmavar police station, and officials are currently investigating the matter. Forensic experts and a canine squad were also pressed into service to gather leads.
