Mangaluru, Mar 7: In a major breakthrough, the City Crime Branch (CCB) police of Mangaluru have apprehended an associate of a notorious rowdy-sheeter who had been on the run for nine years in connection with a murder case. The accused has now been handed over to the Surathkal police for further investigation.
The arrested man has been identified as Sufiyan Hussain alias Kotreshi, 31, a native of Ballari, who was residing near Shyampur Bakery in Shampura, police said.

Authorities revealed that Sufiyan had been evading law enforcement for years, moving across Kalaburagi, Ballari, Mumbai, and Andhra Pradesh before settling in Bengaluru.
During this period, he allegedly assumed the name Hussain, obtained official documents including an Aadhaar card, passport, and driving licence, and married a local woman, living openly under his new identity.
Police said the accused had previously been jailed in connection with the murder of an elderly woman, where he had reportedly snatched a gold chain from her neck. While in prison, he introduced himself as Sufiyan and later joined the gang of infamous rowdy-sheeter Safwan Hussain.
Based on specific intelligence, the police team tracked the accused to Shampura near the railway gate in DJ Halli, Bengaluru, and arrested him.
Police confirmed that multiple cases, including murder, theft, and robbery, are registered against Sufiyan at police stations in Surathkal, Bajpe, Ballari, and Hosapete. He has been handed over to Surathkal police for detailed interrogation.
This arrest ends a nearly decade-long manhunt and marks a significant success for law enforcement in tracking fugitives involved in organised crime across multiple states.
