Udupi, Mar 7: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal celebrates National Science Day, with a special programme held at Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, KMC, Manipal on February 28.
Dr Hoysall N Chanakya, chief research scientist (Retired) Centre for Sustainable Technologies Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, addressed the gathering as the chief guest.
In his keynote speech, he highlighted the growing problem of water pollution in present-day society. He stressed the need to protect water resources from contamination and urged people to consume only the amount of food necessary to avoid wastage. He also emphasised the importance of treating wastewater safely to safeguard the environment.




























Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE Manipal, in his presidential address encouraged teachers to motivate students to question, especially those from rural areas, to pursue quality education.
“Students look to teachers as role models as they start going to school. Youths are the wealth of the nation, therefore it is our responsibility to see that you are provided with good and quality education”, he added. Speaking about sustainability he asked students to reuse vegetable waste and “Take what you eat and eat what you take”.
He encouraged students to eat healthy food by avoiding junk food. He said that today’s youth must strive for excellence in learning and contribute towards building a developed India.
On the occasion, prizes were distributed to students from various schools across the district who had participated in drawing and essay competitions organised as part of the National Science Day celebrations. Teachers were also honoured for their contributions.
Pro vice-chancellor of MAHE Technology and Science, MAHE Manipal Narayana Sabhahit, welcomed the dignitaries and delivered the introductory address. Registrar MAHE Manipal, Dr P Giridhar Kini delivered the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Kaushik.
Dean of Kasturba Medical College Dr Anil K Bhat, students, staff members and others were present on the occasion.
