Mumbai, Mar 5: An interior designer from Breach Candy has lodged a cheating complaint against the directors of a window systems company, alleging a financial loss of over Rs 72 lakh due to defective and unsafe installation work at a luxury residence in Malabar Hill.
According to the FIR, the complainant firm, Beauvuestiledivita Private Limited, secured a turnkey interior contract in December 2022 for a duplex apartment at Nepean Sea Road. For specialised aluminium window systems valued at Rs 34.81 lakh, a work order was issued on February 27, 2023 to Yantra Aluminium Window System Pvt. Ltd., whose directors are Ravi Punjwani and Nikhil Daswani.
The complainant alleged that the company assured European-standard fabrication and installation. Payments amounting to Rs 31.86 lakh were reportedly transferred to the company between March and November 2023.
However, after installation, the homeowner allegedly reported multiple issues, including whistling noise during strong winds, rainwater seepage, faulty locks, damaged gaskets and poor finishing. Subsequent inspections by the complainant’s team claimed that the systems were improperly fabricated and installed.
An independent audit conducted later allegedly found the installation to be structurally unsafe and functionally unsuitable. Despite three reinstallation attempts and multiple repair works, the problems reportedly persisted.
In July 2025, the complainant firm refunded Rs 41.51 lakh to the homeowner. It further claimed that it would incur an additional Rs 30 lakh towards removal of the existing systems, civil repairs and fresh installation, taking the total alleged loss beyond Rs 72 lakh.
The Dadar Police Station has registered an offence under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the two directors. Ravi Punjwani has reportedly obtained interim relief from arrest and has denied the allegations.
Speaking to media, Punjwani stated that the dispute arises out of civil work and has been given a “criminal colour” to harass the company. “We have been in this profession for more than 25 years and have completed the entire work in the building. If there were systemic issues, there would have been multiple complaints,” he said. He added that the company delivered the contracted products and remains willing to repair or replace them if required.
The complainant has alleged misrepresentation of product quality and failure to meet agreed standards, leading to financial and reputational damage. Police said further investigation is underway.
