Puttur: Police raid illegal cockfight at Bajathur; three arrested

Puttur, Mar 5: The Uppinangady police conducted a raid on an illegal cockfighting ring at Manikkala in Bajathur village on Tuesday, arresting three persons and seizing five roosters.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Satish (38), a resident of Sabalooru in Koila village; Murali (30) from Kadambu in Vitla Padnoor village; and Monappa K (36), a resident of Kudatthadka in Valalu.

The operation took place on Tuesday evening while Uppinangady police sub-inspector Suthesh KP and his team were on patrolling duty near Manikkala. Upon hearing the distinct sounds of roosters, the police team rushed to the spot and discovered an illegal cockfight being organised by the roadside.

As the police moved in to conduct the raid, a large crowd gathered at the spot managed to flee. However, the officials successfully apprehended three suspects.

The police have seized five roosters used for the fight, two sets of sharp blades (baalu), and Rs 2,300 in cash used for betting. Additionally, two plastic bags and a motorcycle found at the scene were taken into custody.

During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested men revealed that the event was organised by individuals identified as Deranna and Umesh. The police are currently investigating the matter and have registered a case against the organisers and participants.
