Drone debris sparks fire at Fujairah oil zone, operations resume

Fujairah, Mar 3: A fire broke out at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ) in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday morning after debris from a drone intercepted by air defence systems fell within the facility premises.

Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the refinery complex, one of the UAE’s key energy export hubs. Authorities confirmed that the blaze was brought under control swiftly and that normal operations have since resumed. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The Fujairah media office urged residents and the public to rely only on official sources for updates and to refrain from circulating unverified information.

The incident comes amid a broader wave of attacks targeting energy infrastructure in the Gulf region as tensions escalate. In recent days, drones and missiles have struck facilities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, pushing up energy prices in Europe.

In Oman, a drone strike reportedly hit a fuel tank at the port of Duqm on the eastern coast. Meanwhile, QatarEnergy, one of the world’s largest LNG exporters, suspended production after two of its facilities were targeted by drone attacks on Monday.

The strikes, coupled with Iran’s reported disruption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, have raised concerns over global oil and gas supplies. The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial maritime route through which millions of barrels of oil are transported daily from the Middle East to international markets.
