Pedestrian hurt after iron rod rebounds at Worli–Sewri corridor worksite

Mumbai, Feb 28: A construction-related accident near the KEM Hospital area on Friday left a passer-by injured after an iron rod rebounded off a barricade at the site of the Worli–Sewri elevated corridor project.

Officials said reinforcement work was in progress when an iron rod being used for structural support slipped from height. The rod first struck a protective barricade surrounding the construction zone. The force of the impact caused it to ricochet back toward the pedestrian pathway, where it hit a man on the head.

The injured individual suffered a head wound and required four stitches. He was initially taken to Gleneagles Hospital and later shifted to Global Hospital for further care. Doctors have stated that his condition is stable.

The episode has sparked fresh concerns over safety practices at infrastructure worksites, particularly in areas with significant pedestrian movement. Authorities are reviewing the incident to determine whether additional preventive measures are needed to avoid similar occurrences.
