Panaji, Feb 25: Goa’s beaches have become safer with the launch of innovative ‘Seahorse’ floating rescue stations equipped with rapid-response jet skis, aimed at ensuring quicker emergency intervention for millions of visitors.
The initiative, rolled out by Drishti Lifeguard Services, is designed to enhance beach safety across the state, which attracts over 10 million tourists annually.

A senior tourism official said each Seahorse unit is equipped with two pre-positioned jet skis and is ready to launch immediately upon receiving a distress call. The advanced rescue mechanism has already proven effective, with two successful operations saving 13 lives.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the state has significantly strengthened its safety infrastructure. As part of the measures, 104 Tourist Police personnel are deployed along beaches, working alongside beach wardens and a dedicated helpline system.
Tourists have welcomed the move, describing their beach experiences as safe and well-managed. Officials said the new system reflects Goa’s continued commitment to ensuring visitor safety while maintaining its reputation as one of India’s top coastal destinations.
