Media Release

Mangaluru, Feb 25: Catechism Day was celebrated with deep devotion and spiritual fervour at Holy Cross Church, Cordel, on Sunday, February 22, bringing together parishioners, children and catechism teachers in a vibrant expression of faith.

The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Ivan Cordeiro, director of Codialbail Press. The parish children reverently led the liturgy, reflecting the theme of a “faith-formed and hope-filled Church” and symbolising a generation growing in God’s love and light.

In his inspiring homily, Fr Ivan emphasised that true strength and hope come from God. He urged the faithful, especially the children, to remain rooted in Christian values and to be shining witnesses of faith in their daily lives. The children’s choir enhanced the solemnity of the celebration with melodious and soul-stirring hymns.

The second phase of the programme commenced at 10.45 am at the parish hall. Students Sanjana and Samuel Gillen compered the event and extended a warm welcome to the gathering. A meaningful prayer dance performed by the children set the tone for the cultural segment.

Chief guest Fr Clifford Fernandes addressed the gathering, encouraging students to actively participate in catechism and grow spiritually. Parish priest Fr Ivan Cordeiro also spoke on the importance of nurturing faith formation among children in today’s world.

Students from classes 1 to 10 presented a series of vibrant dance performances, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm.

Prizes were distributed to catechism examination toppers and students who maintained 100 per cent attendance throughout the year. A special felicitation ceremony was organised to honour catechism teachers for their dedicated service and commitment to faith formation.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the end of a spiritually enriching and joyful celebration for the Cordel parish community.
