Udupi: Viral video row sparks 2 FIRs; two arrested after threats

Udupi, Feb 24: Kundapur Rural police in Udupi district have registered two separate cases in connection with a provocative video featuring an 11-year-old boy that went viral on social media.

The incident occurred at around 6 pm on February 22, 2026, within the limits of the Kundapur Rural police station.

According to a complaint filed by the father of the minor boy from Bihar, a video was recorded at a salon in Kandlur in which the boy was seen speaking about certain matters.

The video was allegedly circulated on social media with the intention of provoking the public and inciting unrest. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Kundapur Rural police station.

In a related development, another case has been registered following a complaint by Shashank Bhandary, owner of the salon. He alleged that a group of people gathered in front of his shop and issued threats in connection with the incident.

Police said 20–30 individuals have been identified in connection with the case and that legal action is being initiated against them. Efforts are under way to identify another 25–30 persons, against whom action will also be taken in accordance with the law.

Acting swiftly, the Kundapur Rural police rushed to the spot and initiated legal proceedings. Two persons have been arrested in relation to the case.

The accused have been identified as Shashank Bhandary (30), resident of Janata Colony, Kandlur, Kavradi village, Kundapur taluk, and Pramod D’Souza (25), resident of Uddinamaki, Marasi, Kavradi village, Kundapur taluk.

Both accused were arrested and produced before the competent court.

Further investigation is under way.
