Margao, Feb 21: Anjuna Police on Friday arrested a police control room (PCR) driver accused of stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 7–8 lakh from a critically injured accident victim while transporting him to hospital.

The accused, Saish Parsekar, allegedly took the valuables from Jaster Rodrigues after the latter’s car crashed into a tree in Anjuna on January 24. Rodrigues had sustained severe injuries in the accident and was being taken to hospital in a PCR vehicle driven by Parsekar. Police said the driver is suspected of exploiting the victim’s vulnerable condition during transit. Rodrigues later succumbed to his injuries.

The alleged theft surfaced after the victim’s brother filed a complaint expressing suspicion that the ornaments were missing and that Parsekar could be involved. Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation and questioned the PCR driver before placing him under arrest.

Preliminary enquiries also revealed that Parsekar did not accompany the victim into the hospital after the transfer. He has been booked on charges of theft, and further investigation is ongoing.
