Mumbai, Feb 20: A self-proclaimed godman, popularly referred to as a “Bengali baba,” has been arrested for allegedly pasting and distributing unauthorised promotional material inside trains and across railway premises in Mumbai.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Nazir Andari, was detained on February 17 during a joint operation conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central and Western Railway. Acting on specific intelligence, officials tracked him down to a dargah at Reay Road, where he was taken into custody. Approximately 15,000 printed posters were seized during the operation.

During questioning, Andari reportedly admitted to using railway coaches and other railway property to advertise his services without obtaining prior permission from the authorities. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against him under relevant provisions of the Railway Act.
Investigators later uncovered the possible involvement of additional individuals who allegedly assisted in printing and placing the promotional material inside train compartments. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend these associates, while also examining financial transactions connected to the printing agency involved.
Central Railway has reiterated that defacement, unauthorised advertising, and misuse of railway property constitute punishable offences. Officials emphasised their commitment to maintaining clean, safe and passenger-friendly premises and urged citizens to cooperate in preserving railway property and preventing unlawful activities.
