Six killed as bus rams auto in Amravati

Amravati, Feb 18: Six persons were killed on the spot after a Shivai bus crashed into an oncoming auto on the Varud–Ashti route near Rajura Bazaar area in Maharashtra’s Amravati district on Monday afternoon.

The impact of the collision was so severe that all six passengers travelling in the auto died instantly. According to preliminary reports, a Class 10 girl was among the deceased.

Four others sustained serious injuries in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical.

The mishap triggered panic and grief in the locality, with residents rushing to the spot soon after the crash. Locals helped shift the injured to the hospital as a large crowd gathered at the accident site.

Police reached the location upon receiving information and carried out a spot inspection and panchnama. A detailed probe has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. The bus driver is being questioned, officials said.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the region.
