Beltangady, Feb 13: The education department has suspended head teacher Kiran in connection with the incident of transporting students illegally in goods vehicles — a pickup and a tipper — for a study visit. A case has also been registered at Venur police station against the two vehicles and their drivers.

Students of the Government Upgraded Higher Primary School at Balenja village in Beltangady taluk were taken on a study trip on February 9 under the leadership of in-charge headmaster Kiran. The children were transported in a pickup and a tipper vehicle to the local Nalkooru Anil Farm and brought back in the same vehicles. A video of the incident had gone viral.

Following media reports on the matter, officials from the Beltangady education department visited the school on February 12 and conducted an inspection. Subsequently, an order was issued suspending in-charge headmaster Kiran.

Based on a complaint filed by Balenja resident Dharanendra, a case has been registered against pickup driver Naveen and tipper driver Praveen at Venur police station.
