Mangaluru, Feb 13: A moving Omni van suddenly caught fire at Adka in Kotekar on Thursday. The driver narrowly escaped after a motorist travelling behind alerted him to the danger.

Riyaz, a resident of Talapady, had retrieved his van from a garage at Adka on Thursday afternoon after it was repaired. After refuelling, he was on his way back to Talapady when smoke began emanating from the vehicle. However, Riyaz was unaware that the van had caught fire. At that moment, a motorist travelling behind him informed him that flames had broken out in the vehicle.

Riyaz immediately stopped the van by the side of the highway and ran out to safety. Within moments, the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames and was gutted. Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
