Dubai, Feb 12: Konkani lovers in the UAE were treated to an unforgettable evening of soulful music and acclaimed theatre as Kalaamruth presented a unique and beautiful concept, 'Sur-Rangani'. The mega event, executed to perfection by the Kalaamruth team, drew thunderous applause and loud cheers, leaving a lasting impression as one of the most successful Konkani events in Dubai.
Sur-Rangani commenced on time to a houseful crowd. The stage was set with candles and vibrant lighting, providing a breathtaking visual experience. The event began with a Konkani musical concert featuring renowned singers and accomplished musicians from the Konkani cultural scene.
Bindu Cutinha, making her international debut as the lead female vocalist, enchanted the crowd with her melodious voice. Jason Lobo delivered a spectacular performance with his soulful singing, and their duets created magical moments on stage.
Denzil Pereira, of Blue Angels Choir fame, directed the musical proceedings. The audience applauded the perfect renditions of popular songs which evoked a sense of nostalgia. Supporting the lead vocalists, local singers Vinay Lewis, Jeevan Vas, Priyanka D’Souza, and Leora D’Souza enriched the overall musical experience.
The concert was powered by a talented ensemble of musicians including Arun Carlo, Shameer Habib, Ujwel Solomon, Deepak Machado, Sanal George, Terrel Milton, and Deona Correa. These gifted musicians brought every note to life under the musical direction of Denzil Pereira.
A one-of-a-kind shadow act, performed under the guidance of Rohan Lobo, stunned the crowd. Jackson D’Silva, Reema Dias, Anstin Machado, Vincent Lobo, Amor, and Sharmila Mendonca delivered a brilliant performance in this segment. Asha Correa bridged every song effortlessly with her graceful narration, keeping the audience captivated throughout.
The sponsors, described as the pillars of the show, were felicitated by Fr Jerome Monteiro, parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Pernal. Vernon D’Souza, a popular emcee in the Konkani industry, conducted the stage programme.
The second session of Sur-Rangani featured the classic masterpiece of Chafra’s acclaimed drama, ‘Hando Utla’. A troupe of amateur artistes under the direction of Dony Correa mesmerized the audience with their powerful acting skills. Renowned actors including Godwin Castelino, Rohan Kalakul, Cynthia Mendonca, and Asha Correa delivered the masterpiece to perfection.
The drama featured music designed by Rohan Kalakul and lighting by Melwin Kalakul. Deona Correa provided additional support to the music, while Ashok Almeida and Vincent Lobo managed the backstage operations. Broadway professionally presented the stage setting. The regular applause and laughter from the crowd proved the drama to be a massive hit.
At the conclusion of the event, Dony Correa was felicitated by Fr Jerome Monteiro for his efforts in presenting Sur-Rangani. With this event, Kalaamruth has set a new benchmark for Konkani cultural programmes in the region.
