Kundapur, Feb 12: In a commendable act of honesty, a man who found a gold bangle on the road and handed it over to the police, enabling it to be returned to its owner, was honoured with an appreciation letter by the police. The incident was reported at Kota police station on Tuesday.
Suma, a resident of Brahmavar and a teacher at a private school, had lost a two-pavan gold bangle worth approximately Rs 1.50 lac on January 13 while travelling by scooter from Brahmavar to Kota to attend school. The ornament was lost near Mabukala bridge. She had filed a complaint at Kota police station regarding the loss.

On the same day, Praveen Hegde, a resident of Bannadi and a retired primary school teacher, was travelling by bike from Udupi to Kota when his mobile phone accidentally fell near Mabukala bridge. While picking up the fallen phone, he noticed a gold bangle lying in the mud by the roadside. As he did not know who the owner was, he took the bangle home. After waiting for a few days and receiving no information about the person who had lost it, Praveen had to travel to Bengaluru on urgent work, leaving the bangle safely at his house.
Meanwhile, details of Suma’s complaint about the lost bangle were shared in the beat police WhatsApp group. On noticing this message, Praveen approached Kota police station and handed over the bangle to the police.
Sub-inspector Praveen Kumar R of Kota police station called Suma to the station and facilitated the handover of the bangle from Praveen Hegde to her. Suma was overjoyed to receive the lost ornament.
In appreciation of Praveen Hegde’s honesty, the station officials honoured him with an appreciation letter. Crime sub-inspector Mantesh Jabhagouda and other staff were present on the occasion.
