Byndoor: ‘Konkani Sambhram’ celebrated at Shiruru

Byndoor, Feb 10: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Mangaluru, organised the ‘Konkani Sambhram’ programme at Shiruru on February 8.

The programme was inaugurated by Nagaratna Achar, president of Shiruru gram panchayat. In her address, she extended her wishes and called upon the Konkani community to live in harmony and collectively promote art, literature and culture with pride in the Konkani language.

The programme was presided over by Joachim Stany Alvares, president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy. Welcoming the gathering, he urged people to speak Konkani in their homes, nurture a sense of equality, and actively participate in programmes organised by the academy while extending greater encouragement.

The chief guests present on the occasion included Shankar D Mesta, member, Shiruru gram panchayat; Kapsi Noor Mohammed, vice president, Shiruru gram panchayat; Prasad Prabhu, office-bearer, Peche Sri Venkataramana Temple, Shiruru; Mohan Revankar, member, Daivajna Brahmin Samaj, Shiruru; Kacchi Mohammed Mustaq, president, SDMC Government Higher Primary School, Hadavinakone; Baburao Kamat, entrepreneur, Shiruru; Mamdu Yakoob, former member, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy; and Nagappa Marathi, coordinator, Marathi Sangha, Hosur.

On the occasion, Ramanath Mesta, Shiruru; Srikant Kamat, Shiruru; and Bhatya Meera were felicitated for their achievements in various Konkani fields. Nagendra Kamat, Shiruru, and Soundale Juneid, Shiruru, were honoured for their achievements in education and sports.

Ramanath Mesta, Shiruru, compered the programme. Academy coordinating member Mamdu Ibrahim delivered the vote of thanks. On behalf of the Konkani-speaking community of Shiruru, Academy president Joachim Stany Alvares was felicitated, and coordinating member Mamdu Ibrahim was also honoured.

Cultural programmes were presented by various Konkani-speaking groups of Shiruru. Academy member Naveen Lobo was also present at the event.
