Mangaluru: Nanthoor accident bus hits bike at Kaikamba; rider escapes with minor injuries

Mangaluru, Feb 10: A city bus that had collided with a scooter near Nanthoor bus stand last Wednesday, leading to the death of a pillion rider, was on Monday involved in yet another accident after it rammed into a motorcycle at Gurpur Kaikamba.

On Monday afternoon, the bus was heading towards Kaikamba via Vamanjoor when it hit a bike. Following the impact, the motorcycle fell under the moving bus. The rider sustained minor injuries and narrowly escaped serious harm. No case has been registered in connection with this incident.

The driver who had hit the scooter at Nanthoor last Wednesday was not driving the bus on Monday. Following the Nanthoor incident, that driver had been arrested.

In another incident reported on Monday evening near Kottara Chowki in the city, a private express bus that had suffered a tyre puncture was allegedly driven negligently, putting a couple travelling on a two-wheeler at risk. The couple narrowly escaped from the dangerous situation.

Members of the public stopped the bus, and traffic police questioned the driver. When the driver reportedly gave a casual reply asking whether anyone had come under the bus, traffic police took serious note of the behaviour and imposed a fine before allowing him to leave.

All the buses proceeding towards KPT should move directly on free left and halt 100 metres from the junction of Nanthur Cross. The buses moving towards Bikkarnakatte should halt 100 metres away from the junction. The buses moving towards Mallikatte may use the present bus stop. This will ease the traffic.

Dear people, especially 2 wheelers, if you want to live, stay 10 feet away from these monsters. We can always debate later. First let us start safe. Even if they put you under the bus, they will say you only went under it.

Traffic congestion is always a problem in Nanthoor because there is no proper space, and the some bus stops middle of the road. It would be better to remove the bus stops on both sides and relocate them further away to a safer and more suitable location.”
