KSRTC gets nod to operate through Mangaluru’s core areas

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 10: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses have been granted exemption from earlier restrictions and will now be allowed to operate in the central areas of Mangaluru city, following a notification issued by the Dakshina Kannada district administration.

Earlier notifications issued by the deputy commissioner’s office on January 5, 1991, and April 6, 1993, had restricted the movement of KSRTC buses within the city limits. The Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner has now issued an order granting exemption from these restrictions.

The decision has been taken to benefit the general public, students and women by enabling them to avail the Shakti scheme, and to provide greater convenience to patients visiting public hospitals. The order states that the move aims to promote public mass transport in the central areas of Mangaluru city, ensure public convenience and safety, and reduce the use of private vehicles.

Besides core areas KSRTC should also consider operating in remote areas where there are no or a few private buses like MRPL, Baikampadi Ind'l Area, Honakatte, Jokatte, Chellar Padav and Soorinje.

Next step gradually introduce such service to cover all the areas as and as far the private busses are service now. That is only way to break the monopolistic attitude of private buses zoom without caring public apathy on commuters or other vehicles. Only motto is to pick more passenger is their sole challenge.

Why there is restriction to KSRTC buses inside Karnataka? KSRTC is lifeline of Karnataka people. It is number 1 transport organization in India and 4th in world.
