Chennai, Feb 9: Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin is set to inaugurate Tata Motors’ newly built automobile manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Industrial Estate in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, on Monday, marking a major stride in the state’s industrial expansion and employment generation efforts.
As per an official release from the Ranipet district administration, the project has attracted an investment of ?9,000 crore and is expected to create direct employment opportunities for around 5,000 people. The plant is poised to significantly strengthen the region’s manufacturing ecosystem.

The foundation stone for the facility was laid by the chief minister on September 28, 2024, under the aegis of the State Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce. With all preliminary works now completed, the unit is ready to commence operations.
During the inauguration, CM Stalin will formally open the plant and flag off the first vehicle rolling out from the assembly line. The launch is being viewed as a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s automobile sector, further cementing the state’s reputation as one of India’s foremost automotive hubs.
Handlooms and Textiles Minister R. Gandhi, Industries Minister Dr T.R.B. Rajaa, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and senior government officials are expected to be present at the event. Ministers and district authorities have been closely overseeing preparations to ensure the programme proceeds smoothly.
Given the Chief Minister’s visit, elaborate security arrangements have been made. The Ranipet district police will deploy around 1,500 personnel under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Ayman Jamal to maintain law and order. Minister R. Gandhi personally inspected the SIPCOT premises, reviewing stage arrangements, security measures, the factory tour route, and the area designated for unveiling the first vehicle.
Officials said all logistical arrangements and visitor management plans are in place.
The Tata Motors facility is expected to act as a catalyst for industrial growth in Ranipet and nearby districts, generating substantial direct and indirect employment. The project aligns with the state government’s broader push to attract large-scale investments and expand manufacturing capacity.
With the commissioning of the Panapakkam plant, Tamil Nadu takes another decisive step toward strengthening its industrial base and accelerating economic development across the region.
