Sullia, Feb 9: Alleging that politicians have ignored them after making false promises, villagers staged a symbolic protest by putting up a banner announcing a boycott of voting at Valthaje in Devachalla village of Sullia taluk.
The incident took place at Valthaje, where villagers expressed their anger against what they termed as ‘false assurances’ given by political leaders. According to the villagers, politicians had promised to take up concrete road works at the Valthaje–Karangallu road near the Balkaje turn and the Valthaje–Malerkumeri road. They alleged that leaders even performed a guddali puja, distributed laddus and sought applause, but later failed to carry out the promised concreting work.

To express their protest, villagers installed a banner stating, “Shame on the politicians who gave us false assurances about concreting the Valthaje–Karangallu road at the Balkaje turn and the Valthaje–Malerkumeri road, performed a guddali puja, ate laddus and left after taking applause. As we have been neglected in this manner, we will boycott the next election.”
Through this banner, the villagers conveyed their strong resentment and warned of boycotting future elections if their long-pending demands continue to be ignored.
