Panaji, Feb 6: The alleged use of domestic electricity meters to supply power to commercial villas has triggered sharp criticism from the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), which accused the state authorities of allowing practices that burden ordinary consumers.
GPCC president Amit Patkar claimed that commercial villas were availing electricity at domestic tariffs, unfairly shifting higher power costs onto common Goans. Terming the practice “an attempt to loot the people of Goa,” Patkar said such misuse directly impacts honest domestic consumers who end up paying more.

Responding to the allegations, the Chief Engineer of the Electricity Department said those making the claims must submit a list of properties involved in the alleged violations. “Once we receive a verified list, appropriate action will be taken against the violators,” the Chief Engineer stated.
The issue has once again brought the spotlight on electricity tariff enforcement and monitoring in the state, with demands growing for stricter checks to prevent misuse of domestic connections for commercial purposes.
