Beltangady, Feb 5: The police have clarified that the final post-mortem report in connection with the death of 15-year-old Sumanth of Sambolya locality in Odilnala village of Beltangady taluk is yet to be received, and hence no conclusion has been reached on whether his death was a case of murder or an unnatural death.

Investigations so far indicate that Sumanth had drowned. However, in view of an injury found on his head, the case has been registered as a murder for the purpose of a thorough and comprehensive investigation, and the probe is continuing.

The police department has formed four special teams to investigate the case and is examining all possible angles in detail. Several individuals are being called in for questioning as part of the investigation, though the police have clarified that none of them are accused. Efforts to gather clues are being carried out through multiple lines of inquiry and verification, the department stated.

The police have appealed to the public to share any information related to the case with the department. They have also urged people not to give ear to rumours and warned that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading false information.

It has also come to the notice of the police that this case is being linked to an unnatural death reported in August 2025. However, the department has clarified that there is no evidence to suggest that the earlier case was a murder.
