Kolkata, Feb 4: Becoming an IAS officer is a dream millions nurture, but only a handful turn it into reality. The Union Civil Services Examination—often called one of the toughest exams in the world—demands relentless effort, discipline and emotional strength across its three stages: Prelims, Mains and Interview. Among those who rose to this challenge is Ritika Chitlangia, whose journey stands as a powerful reminder that childhood dreams, when backed by perseverance, can indeed come true.

Born in Kolkata and raised in Delhi, Ritika’s ambition to join the civil services took shape early—when she was just 10 years old. Inspired and motivated by her school teacher, she carried that goal with her through her academic years. She completed her high school education at Birla Vidya Niketan and went on to graduate in BA (Hons) geography from Miranda House, Delhi University, in 2022, securing an impressive CGPA of 9.0.

Beyond academics, Ritika actively engaged in meaningful work. According to her LinkedIn profile, she contributed as a content writer to organisations such as Girl Up and the YCM Youth Conflict Management & Mediation Initiative. Yet, her heart remained firmly set on the civil services.

Soon after graduation, Ritika plunged into full-time UPSC preparation. Long days, sleepless nights and unwavering focus became her routine as she worked towards one of India’s most competitive examinations. Her determination bore fruit when she cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 in her second attempt, securing an All India Rank of 55.

Reflecting on her journey in a LinkedIn post, Ritika described the life-altering moment when the results were declared on April 22, 2025. She spoke candidly about the highs and lows, the self-doubt and the quiet resilience it took to stay the course. Calling the experience a rollercoaster, she expressed gratitude to her family, mentors and friends, whose support helped her navigate the demanding path.

Ritika emphasised that her success is not just a personal milestone but a testament to perseverance, hard work and belief in oneself. She also had a message for fellow aspirants—urging them not to give up, even when the journey feels overwhelming, and to trust the process.

From a schoolgirl with a dream to an IAS officer with AIR 55, Ritika Chitlangia’s journey is a stirring tale of inspiration—proof that with dedication and courage, even the toughest goals are within reach.
