Mumbai, Feb 1: Panic prevailed in Mumbai’s Juhu area early Sunday after five rounds of gunshots were fired outside the residence of Bollywood film director and producer Rohit Shetty, police said.

The firing reportedly took place between 12.40 am and 1 am. No injuries were reported in the incident, officials confirmed. It was not immediately clear whether Shetty was present at his residence at the time of the firing.

Police said the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Teams from the Juhu Police and the Mumbai Crime Branch rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. All possible angles are being explored to identify those involved.

A high-level meeting of senior Mumbai Police officials was also convened in connection with the incident. A case has been registered against unidentified assailants under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.

As a precautionary measure, heavy police security has been deployed around Shetty’s residential tower in Juhu.

Rohit Shetty is one of Bollywood’s most successful filmmakers and is known for hit franchises such as Golmaal and Singham.

The incident has drawn comparisons with a similar firing outside actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence in 2024, when bike-borne assailants fired multiple shots before fleeing. That attack was later claimed by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang. Following the incident, Salman Khan was placed under heightened security cover, which continues due to repeated threats against him.
