Karkala, Jan 31: In a cheque bounce case related to loan repayment, Kavita, a resident of Joduraste, Karkala, has been acquitted by the 2nd additional district and sessions court in Udupi.

The case involved a cheque worth Rs 2,11,670 issued by Kavita to the Sri Beereswara Credit Co-operative Society in Karkala as repayment for a loan. The society filed a complaint in the local court after the cheque was dishonoured by the bank. The lower court had earlier convicted Kavita, prompting her to appeal to the Udupi district and sessions court.

During the hearing, Kavita’s lawyers argued that 'the society had misused a blank cheque it had received for security without the consent of the accused. The disputed cheque was created by the society, and the accused cannot be held liable to pay the amount mentioned'.

Accepting this argument, judge A Sameevulla acquitted Kavita and dismissed the case.
