Mangaluru, Jan 30: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru solemnly observed Peace Day and Martyrs’ Day on January 30, marking the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and paying heartfelt tribute to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation. The observance was marked by deep reverence, patriotism, and a strong call to live by the values of peace and compassion.
The programme commenced with the dignified arrival of the chief guest, advocate Suma R Nayak, along with other dignitaries, escorted by soldiers, setting a solemn and respectful tone for the occasion. Students and staff reflected on the sacrifices of the valiant soldiers guarding the nation’s borders and the martyrs who gave their today for our tomorrow.
The programme was hosted by the students of grade 6D and 5C. A soulful prayer song invoking peace and harmony set the spirit of the day, followed by a vibrant welcome dance symbolising unity and hope. The welcome address was delivered with poise by Deeksha and Ahan. This was followed by a meaningful presentation on the significance of Peace Day and Martyrs’ Day by Ethan, Valen, Gian, and Vihaan, highlighting Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and the enduring relevance of non-violence in today’s world.
A thoughtfully choreographed dance drama portraying empathy, forgiveness, and peace deeply moved the audience and conveyed powerful moral values. The programme continued with a melodious group song celebrating unity, peace and goodwill.
In her inspiring address, the chief guest, advocate Suma R Nayak, a committed animal activist, paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and other martyrs and urged students to reflect on Gandhiji’s vision of India rooted in truth, justice, and compassion. Emphasising kindness towards all living beings, she spoke passionately about the need to care for animals and protect nature, reminding students that peace is incomplete without respect for life in all its forms. Her message, 'Nurture nature, nature is God', left a lasting impression on the young minds.
Principal, Sr Melissa, in her address, appreciated the well-organised programme by grade 6D and 5C, and reiterated that peace extends beyond human relationships to include care for nature and all living creatures. She encouraged students to avoid wastage of resources, protect the environment, and live by the principle of 'Live and let live'. She concluded by urging everyone to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs by striving to build a peaceful and harmonious India.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Aadya and Shubham, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, principal, teachers, and students. The emcees Laranya, Rishaan, Ishaan, Giselle, Janya, Rick, Vishruth, and Ayush ensured the smooth flow of the programme.
The entire school observed two minutes of silence along with the nation, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi and all the martyrs, and remembering with gratitude their ideals of sacrifice, peace, and selfless service.
