New Delhi, Jan 24: President of India Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD-2026) celebrations on Sunday by presenting Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to newly enrolled young voters, officials announced on Saturday.
The 2026 celebrations will revolve around the theme “My India, My Vote”, accompanied by the tagline “Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy,” underscoring the central role of voters in strengthening democratic institutions.
President Murmu will attend the event as the chief guest, while Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal will participate as the guest of honour. The programme will be led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, according to a statement issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

As part of the celebrations, the President will present the Best Electoral Practices Awards across multiple categories. These include excellence in the use of technology, election management and logistics, innovative voter awareness initiatives, effective implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, training and capacity-building efforts, as well as special recognitions and awards for media contributions.
The occasion will also mark the release of two key publications—“2025: A Year of Initiatives and Innovations” and “Chunav Ka Parv, Bihar Ka Garv,” which documents the successful conduct of the General Elections in Bihar.
A short film highlighting the ECI’s global leadership in electoral management and democratic development will be screened, the statement said. Additionally, an exhibition will be organised to showcase various stages of the electoral process, including the preparation of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections. The exhibition will also feature recent voter-centric initiatives and highlight the successful Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections held in 2025.
National Voters’ Day will be celebrated simultaneously across the country at the state and district levels through the offices of Chief Electoral Officers and District Election Officers. At the grassroots level, Booth Level Officers will organise events at polling stations, felicitate newly registered voters, and distribute EPIC cards to first-time electors.
The nationwide celebrations aim to encourage greater participation in the democratic process and reaffirm the importance of every citizen’s vote.
