Beltangady, Jan 23: Two persons accused of attempting to steal a motorcycle were caught by members of the public after a chase, allegedly assaulted, tied to a tree and later handed over to Venur police at Palaragoli in Marodi village of Beltangady taluk.
The incident occurred between 2.10 am and 2.30 am on January 20. The accused have been identified as Moyiddin Nasir and Abdul Samad, residents of Kuloor in Mangaluru city. According to the complaint, the duo was spotted near the house of Deviprasad. A neighbour alerted the family after noticing suspicious activity in the area.

Deviprasad, who was attending a nemotsava programme nearby, rushed to his house along with others and allegedly found the accused fleeing with his motorcycle bearing registration number KA-19-W-407. When they were chased and intercepted, the accused allegedly assaulted Deviprasad and attempted to escape with the bike. On receiving information, a group of around 25 to 30 locals gathered at the spot, overpowered the duo and restrained them until the police arrived.
Based on a complaint filed by Deviprasad, Venur police have registered a case against Abdul Samad and Moyiddin Nasir under Sections 303(2) and 307 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and have taken up further investigation.
