Udupi, Jan 20: Deepesh Deepak Shenoy, recipient of the 'Hoysala Shaurya Award' (November 2025) from the government of Karnataka, urges the chief minister to address frequent power outages affecting grade 10 students ahead of the March–April 2026 SSLC examinations.
Deepesh Deepak Shenoy, a class 10 student of T A Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu, Udupi (a unit of the Academy of General Education, Manipal), and a recipient of the Hoysala Shaurya Award conferred by the Government of Karnataka for civic courage and presence of mind, has written to honourable chief minister Siddaramaiah seeking urgent intervention to address frequent unscheduled power outages in his locality.
In his representation, Deepesh has urged the chief minister to direct immediate inspection and remedial action to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, particularly during crucial morning and daytime hours. He highlighted that continuous power is essential for students preparing for the SSLC examinations conducted by the KSEAB in March–April 2026.
The student pointed out that repeated power cuts have severely disrupted daily study routines, online learning, access to digital educational resources, and charging of electronic devices, leading to stress and anxiety among students and their families.
Clarifying his intent, Deepesh stated that the appeal was not made for publicity or personal benefit but in the larger interest of the student community. He also expressed concern that raising such issues may invite harassment, but reiterated his resolve to continue speaking up in public interest, drawing strength from the civic values for which he was honoured with the highest civilian award for children 'Hoysala Shaurya Award' by the government of Karnataka.
Quoting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who observed that 'education is a liberating force', Deepesh underlined the responsibility of the state to safeguard a conducive learning environment for children.
While appreciating the initiatives and administrative efforts of the Karnataka Government, he cautioned that in today’s digital era, where education and communication are deeply dependent on electricity, frequent unscheduled power cuts risk disconnecting students from their academic future.
“As a student and as a member of this community, I respectfully urge the honourable chief minister to act promptly, not just for me, but for every SSLC student striving to secure their future,” Deepesh said.
