Karkala: Notorious serial thief arrested after foiled break-in at credit co-operative society

Karkala, Jan 18: Police have arrested a notorious thief with a long criminal record in connection with an attempted burglary at the Bajagoli Bunts Credit Co-operative Society in Karkala taluk, an incident that occurred on January 16.

The arrested accused has been identified as Suresh Poojary of Nitte village.

According to police, the accused is a habitual offender, with multiple theft cases already registered against him across several police jurisdictions, including Karkala Town, Karkala Rural, Padubidri, Belthangady, Udupi Town, and even Goa.

On January 16, the accused allegedly broke open the lock of the co-operative society and unlawfully entered the premises, attempting to commit theft. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Karkala Rural police registered a case under Crime No. 04/2026, invoking Sections 331(2), 305, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Prabhu D T, deputy superintendent of police, Karkala sub-division, and Manjappa, circle police inspector, Karkala.

The investigating and arrest team comprised Karkala Rural PSI Prasanna M S, PSI Sundar, ASI Prakash, ASI Sundar Gowda, head constables Rudresh and Chandrashekar, police constables Santosh and Mantesh, along with Dinesh from the District CDR unit, all of whom played a key role in tracking and apprehending the accused.
